C-STEP , John Howard Society

Operated by the John Howard Society of Newfoundland and Labrador since 1984, the C-STEP program provides a range of services to offenders and ex-offenders in the St. John’s area who need support to make changes in their lifestyle and in their approach to everyday situations.

This community-based, not-for-profit program utilizes a variety of group and individual training approaches, as well as follow-up services. These client-specific interventions aim to provide participants with essential skills necessary for successful community living.

C-STEP, offers services which provide intense interventions to high need clients. Training is delivered in a one-on-one or small group setting with a facilitator whose role is similar to that of a coach.

Cognitive Restructuring-Based Group Intervention

Integrated Correctional Program Model Community Maintenance Program

Target Clients: 

Individuals 18 years and over who have had a criminal history.
